Battery pack production fails quietly: a tab whose thickness drifts by two hundredths of a millimetre changes weld energy, contact resistance and cell-to-cell consistency across a thousand assembled packs. Meanwhile galvanized or nickel-plated steel connectors corrode at the weld line under electrolyte vapour, turning a 2-cent component into a field failure. This N6 (NP2) / Ni201 pure nickel strip is slit to battery-grade tolerances so your tab press, welding line and final impedance test all run on a material that behaves identically coil after coil.

Battery tabs are resistance- or laser-welded, and the heat-affected zone briefly enters the 425–760 °C carbide precipitation window. Carbon content decides whether that zone stays ductile in service.
| Property | Ni200 (UNS N02200) | Ni201 (UNS N02201) | N6 (GB, NP2) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Max carbon | 0.15% | 0.02% | 0.10% |
| Sensitization window | 425–760 °C | 425–760 °C | 425–760 °C |
| Intergranular corrosion risk after welding | High in corrosive media | Very low | Moderate |
| Recommended service | Non-welded, dry, <315 °C | Welded joints in electrolyte / alkali service | General industrial, cost-optimized |
For 18650 packs that see temperature cycling and electrolyte exposure, specify Ni201 for welded tabs; use N6 where forming and crimping dominate and corrosion load is mild.
Voltage drop per 10 mm tab length, calculated from resistivity 0.096 μΩ·m (pure nickel, 20 °C):
| Strip (t * w) | Cross-section | Drop @10 A | Drop @20 A |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.1 * 6 mm | 0.6 mm² | 16 mV | 32 mV |
| 0.15 * 6 mm | 0.9 mm² | 11 mV | 21 mV |
| 0.2 * 8 mm | 1.6 mm² | 6 mV | 12 mV |
| 0.3 * 8 mm | 2.4 mm² | 4 mV | 8 mV |
Rule of thumb for tab design: keep per-tab drop below ≈20 mV at peak current to limit resistive heating inside the pack. Widths up to 200 mm allow multi-cell bus strips in one piece.
| Process | Parameter (starting range) | Typical strip |
|---|---|---|
| Resistance spot weld | 1.5–3.0 kA, 150–300 N electrode force, 5–15 ms | 0.1–0.2 mm |
| Laser weld | 300–800 W, 0.5–2 m/min travel speed | 0.15–0.3 mm |
| Ultrasonic weld | 20–40 μm amplitude, 0.3–0.6 MPa clamp force | 0.1–0.3 mm |
Values are industry starting points; we supply free 0.5 kg samples so you can lock parameters on your own production line.
| Material | Resistivity @20 °C | Weld integrity | Electrolyte corrosion |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pure nickel (N6/Ni201) | 0.096 μΩ·m | Homogeneous, no coating layer | Excellent — stable passive film |
| Nickel-plated steel | ≈0.15 μΩ·m (steel core) | Plating delaminates at weld edge | Poor — exposed steel corrodes at cut edges |
| Copper-nickel (CuNi) | 0.40–0.50 μΩ·m | Higher resistance, higher heat input | Good |
Plated steel wins on first cost and loses on weld quality and long-term impedance stability — the two parameters that decide battery pack reliability.

Battery-grade strip demands measurement, not confidence. Every coil passes thickness gauging across the width, slit-edge burr inspection and surface checks; batches are sampled for tensile, hardness and ASTM B117 salt-spray verification. Chemical composition is locked per heat, and an EN 10204 3.1 MTC is issued on request.
Coils are wrapped in anti-rust paper with a moisture barrier, secured on plywood pallets and strapped for sea or air freight; coil IDs and lot numbers allow full traceability back to the heat. Standard sizes ship in 7–15 days, custom slitting in 15–25 days. Free 0.5 kg samples are dispatched within 3–5 days.
Changzhou DLX Alloy has operated a vertically integrated nickel-alloy mill since 2002: melting, hot and cold rolling, precision slitting and in-house testing under one 12,000 m² roof. Because the plant produces nickel alloys only, there is no risk of steel or copper cross-contamination in the very material your battery tabs depend on. With 1,200 tonnes of annual capacity and ISO9001 & SGS certification, we supply battery-material strip as a process partner — not just a warehouse.
If tabs are welded and the pack sees electrolyte or alkali exposure, choose Ni201 (C ≤0.02%) to avoid weld-zone sensitization. For crimped or purely mechanical connections in mild environments, N6 offers the same purity at lower cost.
MOQ is 5 kg for all products. A free 0.5 kg sample is available for N6 and Ni200; N4 and Ni201 samples are charged and refunded with your first order above 50 kg.
Thickness ±0.01 mm on strips up to 0.2 mm, width ±0.10 mm, and slit-edge burr ≤0.03 mm — verified per coil.
