Overview

High heat resistance is a property, not a promise — and it starts with the metal itself. This NP2 pure nickel wire, the GB designation for N6 at ≥99.5% Ni+Co, keeps its structure and surface through repeated thermal cycling, with a melting point of 1435-1446°C and a stable oxide film that resists high-temperature oxidation and sulfidation. Drawn from 0.025 mm to 10 mm on our own nickel line, it serves heating elements, furnace components and high-temperature instrument leads, and it is one of the easiest grades to trial: an N6/NP2 sample is free, and micro wire starts at a 1 kg MOQ.

Heat-Resistant Nickel vs. Heating-Alloy Wire: Two Different Jobs

"Heat resistance" and "heating wire" are not the same requirement. This NP2 pure nickel wire resists heat — it holds dimensional stability, oxidation resistance and mechanical properties at elevated temperatures, which is why it is used for furnace components, heater supports and high-temperature leads. It does not generate heat through high resistance; nickel's resistivity is only 0.096 μΩ·m, making it a conductor. If your application is a resistance heating element that must develop heat, that is the territory of nickel-chromium alloys such as NiCr, a different product line. Specify pure nickel wire when you need a heat-tolerant conductor or structural wire, not when you need a heating element alloy.

What "High Heat Resistance" Means for Nickel Wire

For pure nickel, heat resistance shows up in three behaviours: the melting point (1435-1446°C), a stable oxide film that resists oxidation and sulfidation at temperature, and retained ductility across thermal cycles. NP2/N6 holds these properties while staying a good conductor (0.096 μΩ·m). Note the practical boundary: nickel resists high-temperature oxidation and sulfidation, but the service limit depends on atmosphere, stress and time at temperature — confirm your operating conditions and we will verify the grade against them before you order.

NP2 (N6) and the Grade Spectrum

NP2 is the GB designation for N6, minimum 99.5% Ni+Co with carbon capped at 0.10%. The same line draws NP1/N4 (≥99.9%), Ni200 (≥99.2%) and Ni201 (≥99.0%, C ≤0.02%). For high-temperature service, the low-carbon grades (Ni201, N4) are preferred where the wire sees sustained heat and carbon-sensitive behaviour matters; NP2 covers general high-temperature duty at the lowest cost per kg. All four are commercial-purity nickel, not alloys — state the designation on your order and the mill certificate will match it.

Wire is available from 0.025 mm micro sizes to 10 mm, in soft, hard or 1/2 hard temper, with custom diameters confirmed per drawing. Annealed (soft) temper offers the best formability for coiling and winding around furnace structures; hard or 1/2 hard holds shape in self-supporting leads. Tell us the forming process in your line and the temper will be matched accordingly.

Before committing to production quantity, verify the wire in your own furnace or assembly: request an N6/NP2 sample (free, 0.5 kg), run your heat cycle and weld test, and confirm the chemistry against the mill certificate. How high a temperature can NP2 nickel wire handle?

NP2 or Ni201 — which for our high-temperature application?
